Aus-Can Travel
Travel Website
Project Description
The objective of this project was to create mockups for a website with original written content. The content had to be interesting and follow the writting for the web guide lines. I took the project a step further and turned it into a responsive website built on the bootstrap framework. It is for a website called Aus-Can working holidays. It is a website for Canadian travellers that are interested in going to Australia for a working holiday. The target audience are travellers between the ages of 18-30 since that is the requirement for a working holiday visa. The requirements for the website are that its written content follow the guidelines of writing for the web and search engine optimization.
Project Description
There are not a lot of resources available for Canadian travellers going on a working holiday before they head overseas. There are a lot of things they need to set up before they can work, such as their visa, tax file number, bank account, jobs, accommodation and even transportation. Aus-Can Working Holidays is a resource that they can use to successfully get set up for their working holiday. It also provides travellers with tips and recommendations for places to visit.
For this project I began first with a site map, the written content and gathered all the imagery. The next step was to create mock ups for the website, this was where I designed the logo for the website and chose things like color and layout. For the logo it needed to be clean and recognizable so that it could be made in various sizes. This is where the idea for the shape of Australia and the maple leaf came from. It incorporates symbols for both counties. The placement of the maple leaf in the logo marks where Canadians most often fly into when they arrive. First impressions are important, I thought this fit with the theory behind a logo. The colour turquoise throughout the website was chosen because Australia is surrounded by water. There is one spot along the coast in Australia called the Great Australian Bight that is this unique turquoise colour unlike any other spot in the country. The white font choice was also chosen to also represent the ocean when the waves break on the shoreline.
Once the mockups were complete, I built the website using the bootstrap framework. I chose to do this because it is a responsive mobile first design. This is important for the website because once the travellers are overseas they most often use the internet on their phones when they have wifi. The mobile first design allows them to have access to the resources once they are overseas so they can refer back to it. I included quick links with in each page for the user to find important information faster. And hyperlinks with in the content for external resources and seo purposes.
